I have been informed that the Royal Engineers have been empowered to take action in the matter referred to, and that they will forthwith proceed to remove the encroachments complained of. I have accordingly instructed the Superintendent of Police to detail a sufficient number of men to co-operate with the officer in charge of the Royal Engineers in the work, and to afford him such assistance as he may require.

The Superintendent of Police has been worked into the action of the Royal Engineers referred to, and meanwhile steps will be taken by the Colonial Government to ascertain the amount of the damage sustained for which compensation has been asked, and to which the sufferers appear to be entitled at the hands of the Military Authorities.

I propose to do this on Saturday the 13th Inst and I would name 10 am at this Office as the best place to meet on that day for the purpose.
